. but what happens if the creative juices stop flowing and you find yourself suffering from the infamous writer's block? Here are five simple things you can do to get you back on track.
1. Keep a journal with you at all times
Ideas for articles can be generated at the strangest times. You might be out playing ball with your kids at the park and something catches your eye, or you might be watching your favourite programme on television and see an advert that inspires you, you might even witness something at work that gets your imagination running wild. Don't miss out on these moments of inspriation; keep a pen and a journal or a notebook in your bag or pocket at all times to that you can capture your thought before it disappears.
2. Relax and think about something else
The longer you sit there staring at a blank screen or sheet of paper the more frustrated you will become and the less likely the ideas are to start flowing. Go for a walk around the block, read the newspaper or a book, bake a cake. It doesn't matter what you do just get away from the screen for at least 15 minutes to help you get back into the right frame of mind.
3. Make your workspace inspiring
You need to feel relaxed at your workspace so that you are in the right frame of mind to write. Create a vision board by cutting out images from magazines and pinning them up on a cork board above your desk. Use images from your niche to help your imagination run wild.
4. Think about music
Some people find it easier to write if there is music playing in the background, others prefer silence. See what works for you. If there is distracting background noise like the cars going by your window or even the dog barking then some quiet music will help to drown this out so you can focus on your writing.
5. Take a break
I don't just mean a ten minute break, I mean a real break. Switch off your computer, unplug your phone and leave town for a few days. Spend quality time with your family. Do anything but try to work. Everyone hits the wall at some point and when you do it's best to just walk away and take some time out to recharge those batteries. You'll come back to your work feeling re-energised and refreshed and you will make up that 'lost' time in no time at all.
