, Arya Samaj. He was an important religious scholar and Hindu reformist. With utmost significance to devotion to god and Karma, Arya Samaj was conceived on 10 April 1875. More than 10 million followers and believers worldwide spreading across 22 nations like Australia, England, Canada, United States, South Africa, Pakistan and many more are currently present. He translated the Vedas from Sanskrit to Hindi for the common man to comprehend them. Dayanand was the first to give the ideology of Swadeshi, even long before Gandhiji.

Infallibility of the Vedas is the cornerstone of the Samaj. This societys motto is also taken from the Vedas, "Krinvanto Vishwam Aryam" (Make this World Noble). Arya Samaj believes that the source of all knowledge is God and only God. The Arya Society denounced the idol worship practices and rituals prevalent in Hinduism at that time. For them, God is omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient, endless, immortal, and fearless and the creator of the Universe.

Since the society Arya Samaj is based on the Hinduism, Arya Samaj marriages happen only within the Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs and Jains. The rituals and ceremonies are according to Hindu scriptures, Vedas. 'Dayanand Saraswati' started Arya Samaj Marriage in the year 1875. The marriage is based on the rituals of Vedas, which is considered as the poetry of eternity.

The wedding is conducted according to Arya Marriage Validation Act XIX of 1937. Fire and other elements are considered the witnesses. As the society neither believes in idol worship nor in a specific God, no extravagant ceremonies of any deity. Aryas are considered to be people working for the betterment of society on the basis of truth and they are the ones who conduct the marriage. The society believes that instead of spending large amount of money on marriages, the money can be spent on the welfare of society, thus the wedding is a simple affair. Only garlands and sweets are needed and the wedding lasts almost an hour. The marriages held, are very simple in affair and the Vedas are translated into Hindi/English, so that everybody can understand it. Non-Hindu Couples who want to get married according to the Arya Samaj teachings have to first get converted into Hinduism through a purification process with their consent called Shuddhi.

Few documents are also required for the marriage process. Documents verifying the age of both the parties (21 for the groom and 18 for the bride) are needed. Two witnesses from either side are required to be present at the ceremony. In case of a divorcee, a copy of divorce and in case of a widow/widower, the death certificate of the previous partner. Two garlands, two kilogram sweets and half kilogram ghee and passport size photographs are the minimum requirements.

With Arya Samaj, thousands of couples have been brought together under the holy bond of marriage. The society is leaving no stone unturned to maintain the oneness and holiness of God and the Vedas.
