Scars can be kind of exciting. People like to compare them and swap stories of injuries and adventures. Surgical scars are not always desirable, though, and most people would prefer not to have them. This is especially true for people who have had liposuction. Luckily, modern techniques usually prevent any long-term scarring, and most people like it that way.

It's funny, but people tend to be proud of their scars. A lot of scars come with great stories of misfortune, accident, or adventure. It's common for guys, especially, to brag about their scars and try to out-do each other with stories of wild situations.

While most people will happily show anyone scars from wilderness adventure accidents, most are a little more secretive about surgical scars. People are usually not as comfortable letting other people in on the details of their health conditions or medical procedures.

There's nothing to be ashamed of about having a surgery, but it is common for medical scars to be considered somehow embarrassing. This taboo seems to carry over into the realm of cosmetic surgeries as well.

Cosmetic surgeries grow in popularity every year. They are non-medical procedures designed specifically to make individuals more attractive in one way or another. Cosmetic surgeries include plastic surgery to remove scars (incidentally), surgeries to improve facial features, and liposuction to remove fat, among others. It seems that many people want to have these surgeries done without everyone in the world knowing they have had surgery.

A scar can be like a beacon, inviting curiosity and questions from others, and most people would like to avoid having others ask questions about their cosmetic procedures. For this reasons, liposuction has been carefully improved over the years to minimize scarring as much as possible. This is achieved in several ways.

One way is by keeping incisions small. Fat is sucked out through incisions that are at biggest two-thirds of an inch long. Liposuction to certain areas of the body involves much small incisions that are barely longer than one millimeter!

The incisions are usually allowed to drain on their own without use of stitches, although some surgeons still use stitches in certain cases. Incisions left open without being stitched up allow for drainage after the surgery and generally heal up very well with the use of a compression bandage and garment.

Surgeons are also careful to make the incisions in the least visible places on the body. This decreases the likelihood of others noticing them at all.

Although the scars are visible for months after liposuction, they do fade considerably until they disappear. For most people, no trace is left behind at all within one year. That's good news for people who would rather not have the world know about their liposuction.
