. This segment of museum forms three museums belonging to the National Museum of Singapore and is one of the original museums that on pure Asian cultures and its authenticity. The museum was first opened on the 22nd of April 1997 in the Old Tao Nan School which is located in the Armenian Street. At this venue most of the displays were focused on Chinese Civilization. With the Empress Place Building being restored a new flagship museum was opened up in March 2003 with a wide assortment of displays boasting the rich and diverse civilizations from all other Asian countries. The flagship branch was again closed in 2006 for renovations and reopened in 2008 as Peranakan Museum which specializes in Peranakan Culture. The Museum came up with a new slogan for itself in 2006 as 'The Asian Civilizations Museum - Where Asian Cultures Come Alive!' The slogan and the new logo shows off its distinctive location in the historic river of Singapore. There are exquisite porcelain figurines, statues belonging to the Taoists and Buddhists, calligraphy and decorative art which features the Chinese collections. The South Asian Gallery has collections belonging to wide period in history including some Chola Bronze sculptures of Shiva, Uma and Somaskanda. You will also find Buddhists arts of India coming down from the schools Mathura and Gandhara.
There are certain rooms in the museum that are used for special and temporary exhibitions which most recently displayed a breathtaking Bronze Age mask from China.
