Asking For Help From The Guidance Counselor With Regards To Student Disruptive Behavior
Student disruptive behavior is normal in most classroom settings
. We know for a fact that students tend to be noisy and disturbing at some point in time. As teachers, we must understand them and, as much as possible, correct them of their current behavior.
As a parent even if secondary in stature to these children, we must be the first to impose proper discipline in the classroom. Since we have first hand information and interaction with these students, we actually can correct and regulate their actions especially if it proves harmful to the class atmosphere. We all know that there is a school counselor who is responsible for correcting the behavior of any disruptive students. However, we can not go to him or her on a weekly even a daily basis to inform the students who misbehaved. Therefore, here are some areas that can aid you in determining when really is the perfect time to go and see a counselor.
1. If you can not hold the student. The first thing a teacher can do to a disturbing behavior of a student or a group of them is to discipline them right away. You must find ways and means to cope with it trying to exhaust all possible strategies of yours. Then, if think there is no change at all, then it is time to transfer them to the counselor. At least when talking with the counselor, you can inform him or her things that you already did on your end but with no avail.
2. If the student disruptive behavior does not change given a disciplinary action. It is a teacher's responsibility to impose discipline in class. But if you notice there have been no changes on the student's end, it is a clear indication that this individual doesn't respect and follow you anymore. If they fail to recognize your authority, it is time to accelerate the matter to a more distinct position like the guidance counselor.
Seeking the help of a guidance counselor does not mean you're an incompetent teacher and do not know how to discipline students. In fact, it is suggested that you see your advisor from time to time because it is also their responsibility to help students set on the right track. But before you go to them, impose provisional measures and make sure you already exhausted all possible strategies. A student disruptive behavior is in fact easy to solve, you just need strategies and right individuals to support you with such an endeavor.
