Assisted Living : An Art of Residential Care

Assisted living residences provide supervision and assistance with acitivities of daily living

. These are the coordination of services provided by outside health care bodies which helps in monitoring of acitivities of residents that ensures their health, safety and well being. Assistance may include administration of medication and personal care provided by trained staff. Assisted living is an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for people, normally seniors, for whom independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home. Assisted living is a philosophy of care and services promoting independence and dignity.

In a typical assisted living facility resident would usually be a senior citizen man or a woman who does not need the intensive care of a nursing home but prefers more companionship and needs some assistance in day-to-day living. Assisted living is regulated at the state level. Because of that, every state has their own policies that define and regulate what care and services are required for an assisted living community to meet the state standards.

Assisted living is a new concept of housing for the elderly that could gain ground in the coming years, given the increasing proportion of old people in the population. With a social stigma attached to old age homes, the elderly need housing facilities that preserved their dignity in old age and helped them cut out the loneliness in their lives when their children are not around. Assisted living is a residential option for seniors who want or need help with some of the activities of daily living, things like cooking meals, getting to the bathroom in the middle of the night, keeping house, and traveling to appointments.

In general, assisted living is in a residential type facility, ranging from converted homes or apartment complexes to renovated schools. Some provide apartment-style living with scaled down kitchens, while others provide rooms. In some, you may need to share a room unless willing to pay higher cost. Most facilities have a group dining area and common areas for social and recreational activities.

There is a huge variation among assisted living facilities. While this can make the process of choosing seem daunting, the plus side is that you have a good chance of finding a facility that is perfectly suited to your preferences and needs. In elder ages everyone need some assistance in some key areas where assisted living guide them and help them in perfoming their tasks at good levels like bathing, dressing, eating drooming, medication and nursing etc. hence in elder ages assisted living is very much needed in the coming scenario.
