These days, moms don't always have a choice about whether to go back to work after their baby is born, as they need the income

. While not all moms want to be stay at home moms, there are many home business ideas for women that allow you to be more available for your children, while still pursuing a career. If you are feeling at the end of your maternity leave returning to work is not a good idea then read on for some great home business ideas.

1. Open a Daycare Facility

You will find there are many parents in your area who either want to return to work, or have to do so in order to make it through each month. You have one baby to look after already so consider looking after a few more. You will have to check local regulations and qualification requirements, but this is a great way to make some extra money while spending time with your little one. You will have to be patient, love babies, and you should get first aid training before you consider looking after children.

2. Become a Consultant

Depending on your qualifications, you could offer your services as a consultant to local businesses or individuals. For instance, if you are an accountant, you could help businesses with tax returns and auditing for a smaller fee than they would pay to employ a full time accountant. Marketing, legal counselling and human resources are all areas that can be outsourced on a project basis.

3. Get Crafty

If you are artistic or good at any crafts, consider making items to sell at local markets and fairs. Beading, knitting, sewing, artistic works and many other items are gaining popularity as our society moves towards more natural and organic goods.

4. Grow Vegetables

Growing organic vegetables not only provides you and your family with fresh, healthy food, it can also become a good source of income. Local fresh produce markets will be interested in your wares, or you can just sell to the neighborhood.

5. Become a Freelance Writer

If you have any writing skill, put it to good use by offering your services to local businesses. You can write adverts, website content, brochures and even letters for small businesses in your area. There are many freelance job sites on the internet that provide jobs for freelancers in different areas.

6. Open your Own Business

Some jobs can be converted into a home business quite easily. If you are a graphic designer, start working from home, building a client base from local businesses. A recruitment agency is another business that can be run from home. If you have some capital, you can start a gardening service, pool cleaning service, handyman service and so on, employing people to do the work you can't do yourself.

7. Become an Internet Marketer

Internet marketing is gaining in popularity, as it has very low start up costs, and can be quite easily done from home as long as you have a computer with an internet connection.

Whatever you decide to do at the end of maternity leave returning to work is not your only option. There are many options for mothers who want to work from home and they can provide not only additional income, but a satisfying and stimulating career as well.
