As the designs and styles of sarees differ from one state to another, the sarees from the western India also have a distinct style and quality that are identical to that region. Usually the variation is in terms of fabric, pattern and the style of draping the saree. The sarees of this region have an identical character that reflects the tradition and creativity of West India. Here comes the most popular and elegant sarees form west India:

Bandhani sarees

Bandhini sarees are highly in demand in all parts of India. These sarees have unique designs that are created with tie and dye technique. The cloth is dyed in a manner so that many small resist-dyed spots produce sophisticated patterns over the fabric. The spots can vary in size. The designs are created on cotton, synthetic and silk. The general pattern of Bandhini is dyeing with two contrasting colors. These patterns lie on the border and the pallu.

Gujarati Brocade

Gujarati Brocade is very expensive and very rarely available. The main distinctive characteristics of Gujarati Brocade sarees are circular designs, known as Butis. These are woven in the wrap direction instead of the weft which results in their lying horizontally on the saree when draped, instead of vertically. Floral designs are also woven in colored silk against a golden ground fabric. The specialty of Gujarati work is that they have leaves, stems and flowers outlined by a fine dark line.

Embroidered Tinsel Sarees

Embroidered Tinsel Sarees are extension of metallic-embroidered sarees. These sarees are silk-screened or technically block-printed. Instead of dye pattern transparent resinous glue is printed onto the fabric and gold dust or flakes of mica are sprinkled over it. In earlier days cultural groups known as The Sodha and the Rabaris Rajputs of western region had an embroidered tradition called Tinsel. Later it became a well-known embroidery pattern and was used on sarees. These sarees are made of different styles. Some sarees also have pearls and precious stones on it and are available in broad range of rich colors. Today Zardosi work based sarees are an exclusive part of bridal clothing. Some popular varieties of Tinsel Embroidery are khari work and Balla tinsel.

Maheshwari and Chanderi

Chanderi sarees are fame and specialty of Madhya Pradesh. They are light in weight and ideal as summer attire. These sarees are made of either silk or cotton and the patterns are derived from Chanderi temples.

Silk and cotton are also mostly utilized in the Maheshwari sarees. The proficiency of the Maheshwar craftsperson is that the saris have reversible border and can be worn at both sides. This sarees are usually purple or green in color with a border of zari. The most popular patterns of Maheshwari saree are an array of flora and leaves on the border.

Paithani

This pattern of saree originated in Maharashtra and was named after a village near Aurangabad. These sarees require massive amount of skill, labour and pure material in the whole process of creation. No doubt the final piece finds its way to your wardrobe. Distinctive images such as parrots, trees, plants are woven into the saree. the brighter shades are also available and includes shades of vivid magenta, purple and peacock greens. The border and the pallu come in contrast with the saree color.

Sarees of West India has vast variety as the region displays traditional as well as fashionable sarees in profusion. The inhabitants prefer to wear heavy decked sarees in social gatherings and occasions like marriage and the affluent women prefer to wear heavily designed sarees which helps them to flaunt their status quo.
