Atv Riding Rules

Abiding by the rules and regulations for ATV riding is extremely important

. While some may seem silly, all are there for a reason. Every state has their own set of rules for ATVs, so if you are new to a state check into this before you go riding.

Titling your vehicle will almost always be required in a new state. You may get away with a few rides with an old title, but eventually you will have to get an updated one. This can be done at the DMV just like any other vehicle.

Registering your ATV goes hand in hand with titling it. Some states don't require you to register your ATV if it's not being used on public roads. Other states mandate that all ATVs need to be registered.

Once registration and titles are taken care of, you will want to look into the road and trail regulations. Most ATV trails will be marked so you know you are permitted to ride. If they are not marked, you should just assume they are prohibited.

Roads aren't always made to withstand the pressures of ATV riding. Riding on unauthorized roads can ruin the roads, but can also cause serious injury if the road doesn't hold up. You never want to risk your safety by ignoring road signs.

Wearing the right safety gear isn't always written in the rules for ATV riding but it is just as important. Most states will require a full head helmet similar to a motorcycle helmet. The other gear you wear is basically up to you but the more you have on, the safer you will be.

There are also some ATV rules that aren't really in writing but are nonetheless important. Being a responsible ATV driver isn't a state law, but it's expected of anyone who rides an ATV. Make sure your ATV is taken care of especially important parts like ATV shocks. A blown ATV shock can really mess up a trail and can also hurt a rider. Changing out parts like ATV shocks will save you from making a dumb mistake that you will regret later on.

These are just a few of the many rules and regulations for ATV riding. Do your best to heed them for everyone's safety. Whether it's safety gear or simply titling your ATV, get it done before you go out for a ride.
