The introduction of Audi A4s fourth generation model was in Frankfurt Auto Show in year 2007. But after half of a year later in Geneva Motor Show in year 2008, the public saw its Avant body style for the first time. The new A4 Avant had a better stability and weight distribution was improved, even the critics praised its use of Audi Modular Longitudinal Platform. The front overhang was reduced and the power-trains position was re-adjusted. The new model of A4 Avant had lightweight steel components, longer wheelbase and in came the new technological features: Servotronic steering, electronic park brake and MMI system. Audi A4 Avant now stands equal to its traditional rivals, the Mercedes C-Class and the BMW 3-Series, these new models drive as well as they looks.

The new model comes with seven-spoke alloy wheels as standard, but on the options list, there are five variations are available. S, SE and S-line (with sporty details added to the interior and exterior to the S-line) are the three available trim levels. The steering of Audi A4 Avant has improved and accurate. The DSG twin-clutch gearbox is brilliant and a worthy option, theres a superb Audi Drive Select (ADS) system which enables the drivers to sharpen the throttle response, adjust the dampers and optimise the power steering. The A4 claimed a five-star rating for adult protection by the Euro NCAP. As a standard all models feature Electronic Stability Programme, other considerable options are the hi-tech lane assist and the side assist system with blind spot warning.

Audi A4 Avant engines are state of the art in their performance and economy. They are offered in three variations in petrol and two in diesel. The Audi A4 petrol engines are: a 1.8-litre TFSI with 160 hp which produces 250 Nm of torque, achieving 0-62 mph in just 8.9 seconds, the CO2 emissions only 172 g/km and the combined economy of 32.6 mpg, it comes with front wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox. Theres a 2.0-litre TFSI with 211 hp which produces 350 Nm of torque, achieving 0-62 mph in just 7.1 seconds, the CO2 emissions only 192 g/km and the combined economy of 27.67 mpg, it comes with all wheel drive and automatic six-speed gearbox. And the last one is a 3.2-litre V6 FSI with 265 hp which produces 329 Nm of torque, achieving 0-62 mph in just 6.4 seconds, the CO2 emissions only 216 g/km and the combined economy of 25.8 mpg, it comes with all wheel drive and a manual six-speed gearbox.

The Audi A4 diesel engines are: a 2.0-litre TDI with 143 hp which produces 320 Nm of torque, achieving 0-62 mph in just 9.7 seconds, the CO2 emissions only 149 g/km and the combined economy of 41.2 mpg. Another 2.0-litre TDI is with 170 hp which produces 350 Nm of torque, achieving 0-62 mph in just 8.6 seconds, the CO2 emissions only 154 g/km and the combined economy of 40.5 mpg. And the last one is a 3.0-litre TDI with 240 hp which produces the massive 500 Nm of torque, achieving 0-62 mph in just 6.3 seconds, the CO2 emissions only 188 g/km and the combined economy of 33.1 mpg. All of these engines come with a manual six-speed gearbox.
