Audio CD is the hottest thing in publishing right now. And for a reason! The popularity of Audio CD is increasing as more and more people see the benefits of the medium. With Audio CD, everyone can now listen to their favorite stories and educational materials while eating, driving, running, and even while taking a shower! Everyone can now listen to audio books by simply inserting the Audio CD in our car stereo or carrying our mp3 when we buy some groceries.

Now, isn't that just what we need? We want things instant, easy, and most of all, convenient. Yes, we still prefer the hard books but sometimes, with our busy schedule, we just cannot find the time to sit down and savor a good book anymore! When was the last time you bought a book and actually read the whole thing in one sitting? If you are as preoccupied with life like me, I bet you can't even finish one in a month. You set aside reading time and then the phone rings, or your kid suddenly jumps on your bed, or someone knocks on the door. Orhmmm, you just don't enjoy the act of reading as much as you enjoyed it in your younger years.

Some think Audio CDs can bastardize a good book because it's less artistic, less poetic (we cannot deny this) and too commercial. That might be true for certain literature but for me, listening to an Audio CD is better than nothing. Would you rather that we let our brain gather rust due to lack of information/stimulation simply because we don't have time to read? Oh, but you insist that I should find time to read. But what if I simply don't enjoy the act of reading?

Come on now. Don't be a snob! Audio CD is not a bad thing. In fact, it is a big blessing to a lot of busy people who are interested in enriching their knowledge, skills, and imagination. I certainly wish more authors would start making Audio CDs of their books for the benefit of everybody. It would be such joy to know that we have options when we visit the bookstores- hard books when we want to really savour and feel a story, and Audio CD when we want information fast, or when we just want to know a story without actually savoring every chapter.

Let's be thankful to those authors who have the initiative to make Audio CDs for busy people like myself. We can learn a lot if we don't resist change and just let them offer us more options.
