Avoid A Lost Or Stolen Wallet Ruining Your Holiday

Travelling is such an exciting adventure -the new sights and smells

, cultures and customs, people and places, it all adds up to new experiences and great memories. But one thing that can really dampen or even ruin a holiday or trip overseas is losing a wallet or other valuable items. To avoid this unfortunate and very stressful event happening, here are some tips and tricks to remember while travelling abroad.

Divide and Conquer

The most stressful part of having something personal like your wallet or ID go missing or be stolen is that everything was in the one place. You cant take out money because your cards were in your wallet, nor can you go into a bank because your ID was probably taken too. This is where splitting up your wallet contents can make the experience a whole lot less traumatising. Break up your cash by putting some in your wallet, some in a secure pocket within your backpack and some in your sock. Also, try to keep important IDs like passports or drivers licenses in a pouch you can wear around your neck. This way, if your bag gets stolen, they will only be taking a small amount of cash and nothing that cant be replaced.

Room Raiders

Unfortunately, things can often go missing from your own room, even if its securely locked. To avoid having money, gifts or personal items taken from your room you need to split up your important belongings or make use of the in room safe if one is provided. Always remember to lock the safe when you leave your room. Many people forget. The more difficult and time consuming you make it for people to find and take things, the less chance youll come back to an empty room. Secure or distribute your valuables to avoid a nasty surprise after a long day of sightseeing.

Ensure Youre Insured

Aside from distributing your things to avoid a devastating blow, another important element to any overseas journey is to buy adequate travel insurance. This will give you the ultimate in peace of mind by covering a range of losses you could experience while abroad. Not only will travel insurance take care of the financial impact that a lost or stolen wallet can have, but also allow you to get on and enjoy your holiday without too much fuss or bother.

And finally, in the event that you do have important items stolen, be sure to report the incident to the local police, cancel all of the stolen cards, contact your insurer and arrange for replacement bank cards. This way you can be sure that youve done everything in your power to avoid any repercussions later on down the track, long after the holiday is over.
