? Meta keywords are simply the tags that you use to describe your postings. They are important in a sense that they give the google search engines an idea of what your page will be about. google search engines like to pull results from these descriptions as long as they jibe with what the actual content is. Along with a catchy headline and spot on content, it's not hard to get your info to the top of the Google rankings, unless you need mischaracterized it in this all important location. So clearly you want to avoid meta keyword spam and mistakes, because if you never, there could be a serious backlash.
Google takes its role as enforcer of the web very seriously. They need millions upon millions of users, who are searching for information at any given second, and if the results are not trustworthy, especially on a consistent basis, then it can lead to user frustration and complaints. And when that happens, your site has had it. If you are maliciously or intentionally doing it, it could even be considered black hat marketing, and when Google notices that, they tend to blacklist you. Getting blacklisted by Google is the equivalent of a nightmare to the web marketer, so you want to avoid it whenever possible.
With that said, the best way to avoid this trouble is to first be honest about what you need written or posted. You may be able to get away with stuffing a keyword or two here and there, but as soon as Google finds out, they are sending you straight to the bottom of the list. In the content creation stages, the last thing you want to think about is meta keyword descriptions. That doesn't mean they lack in importance; it just means you can't really do it effectively if you aren't quite sure what your content says. It's important the body of the post is reflected through the meta keywords. These components should in essence tell the story of your post in just a few key terms.
So first, focus on content. Build the most compelling articles or presentations that you can. Try to make them genuinely interesting to the people, who would most appreciate them. Once you are finished, do a little keyword research to discover the terms that are at low competition with searches at or below 80,000 monthly. But never go so low that any results you get would be ineffectual. Generally that 10k to 80k range is best. Once you realize all the keywords you wish to use, make sure they're included in the body of your post, and then use them as the meta description.
