There are a few popular fabrics used in manufacturing of laundry bags. AL of them could be washed and dried without too much complications

1. Nylon - the most durable and long lasting material, it is fully recyclable. Disadvantages include:Nylon laundry bags are usually higher priced that polyester laundry bags, lower melting point.

2. Polyester - the most popular today fabric used in manufacturing of the laundry bags. Most of polyester bags come from China. Advantage: lower price, consistence of the color, higher melting point than nylon; it is fully recyclable. Disadvantages: not as strong as nylon fabric, will unravel faster in wash-&-dry cycle than nylon bag (unless it stitched with special type of stitching).

3. Cotton fabric - today with "Green" being pushed as a solution to every earth problems it may seem that it would make a perfect sense to make laundry bags of cotton. A few ting should be taken in account when you buy cotton laundry bags:

a. Cotton shrinks if washed in hot water, it shrinks even if the material was pre-shrunken.

b. It takes long time to dry.

c. It is heavy.

d. It is stiff.

e. It is harder to get rid of stains on cotton bag than synthetic bags.

At the same time, if made from heavier grade of cotton 10oz or heavier, bag beter "keeps" it shape, provides better protection to penetration of sharp object, than 70-210 denier standard nylon or mesh bags.

4. Polypropylene: very strong material and usually less expensive, than nylon or polyester. Advantages: if fabric is finished in a proper way it will make a strong long lasting bag. Main Disadvantages include: lower melting point and high shrinkage factor. These bags should not be fried in commercial dryers.

5. Poly-cotton fabric: depending on the type of blend and a type of weaving, bags made from poly-cotton usually have long service life. They are popular with hotels, institutions, industrial laundries. Normally costs are higher for nylon bags.

6. Mesh bags: mainly used for washing garments in them, and also, they are used as regular carry bags. Most of the mesh bags are made from polyester yarn on raschel type knitting machines. Weight of the yarn (denier) and size of the hole and knitting pattern define weight of the material and its strength.

7. Manufacturing of laundry bags includes cutting sewing and printing. When bags are cut they cut either to standard size or custom size/shape. When bags are custom made manufacturer bears responsibility to give his customer clear paperwork before production begins. Some companies make all their bags to order and do not keep stock at all. Stitching: on nylon bags most common sitting is 5-thread overlock abd on mesh bags 3 thread special type overlock which rolls the edge of the material to form enough body for needles to "grab" and put thread around. Normally mesh bags are sewn with very heavy thread (1000 denier) to insure durability in washing cycle.

8. Printing on laundry bags is not a simple process. Special bonding agents should be added to the ink and fabric should not have Teflon finish on it in order to produce good bond. Drying process is also very important to make sure that ink cures 100%.
