It seems that everyone has a mobile or cell phone nowadays

, and for good reason. Mobile phones do offer quite a few advantages today. Most of the cell phones plans that are available are very affordable and provide quite a few minutes and services that people want in a phone. One huge issue is that at times, there are fees and costs that can be overwhelming if you are not careful. Learn how to avoid these extra fees on your phone bill each month.

The most common problem folks have is an overage in minutes. The fee on too many minutes used in a month can get very expensive and with a little prevention, there is no reason to ever have this happen. Get an idea of how many minutes you use each day and each month. Monitor your usage so that you will not go over the set plan limit. This way, you will not get charged extra by having too many minutes over your plan.

Texting can at times add extra costs. If you do not have unlimited texting, before you know it, you might go over. If you have ever had an issue with this, it is probably worth paying the extra $5 a month for as many as you want than getting charged a fee. Parents of teenagers should take notice of this area especially. Texting seems to be the favored form of communication among teens these days.

Early termination fees can really add to the costs. This occurs when you stop paying for the phone before the contract is up. Many times this can be into the hundreds of dollars. Make sure that you do not fall into this trap. Ask about changing up the plan to something cheaper as opposed to cancelling and taking this huge fee.

Some people tether their phones to their laptop. This means you can use the phone's bandwidth to surf the internet. At times, at the cost per kilobyte, it is very easy to get bills of hundreds and even in some cases thousands of dollars. Read the fine print between unlimited bandwidth on the phone versus laptop tethering fees so this does not happen to you.

There are other times where getting onto international connections or roaming will increase your bill. If going out of your coverage area or the country, be sure you know exactly how much these fees are going to be.
