Talking on cell phones and texting on cell phones have become a habit that is more and more popular especially for teenagers. If you have a teenage driver in the home you have to make sure that you take the time to explain how dangerous this is.
You should not put your teenagers in the position that they have to talk on the cell phone when they are driving. Many parents feel that having a cell phone in the car is necessary for their child's safety.
Calling your child when you know they are driving is putting them in a very bad situation. Understanding how popular this trend is may help you understand how easy it is for kids to text and call while they are on the phone.
You also have to make sure that you lead by example. You should not be calling or texting while you are driving.
If you find yourself in a situation that you have to call or text while you are travelling you should pull your car over and talk then. You cannot expect your children to not call and text in the car when they watch you do it.
Being an example should not be the only reason that you choose to not call or text while you are driving. These habits are not dangerous for only teenagers.
There are people that die all around the country because they are texting or calling when they are driving. You do not want to be another statistic.
Texting and calling are not the only distractions that can occur inside of a car. You have to realize that anything that takes your eyes off of the road is a distraction.
If you have young children in the car and they are in a car seat you have to make sure that you do not let them distract you from driving. Even if your child is crying they will be better off having you pay attention to the road.
If you turn around and get into a serious car accident you could injure yourself or even your child very easily. Do not allow yourself to get distracted by your young children while they are driving.
If there is an incident that requires your immediate attention you should pull your car over to a safe place and solve the problem. Do not pull your car over into a dangerous place.
You should also be very careful when you are changing radio stations or when you are putting an address into a GPS. Some people think that they can do this easily and quickly but a car accident can also happen easily and quickly.
Take the time to prepare your car before you start to drive. Have the CD that you want in the CD changer and have the proper addresses and destinations entered into your GPS.
If you take these precautions you will be much less likely to get into an accident because of distractions. It may be inconvenient to pay attention and you may feel like you miss out on something when you are driving but it is well worth it to pay attention.
Making sure that your teenage drivers drive with responsible passengers is also important. Although you may not always be able to control who they have in the car you should take the time to explain this importance to them.
If a passenger is rowdy or takes the drivers attention away from the road you should explain to your child that they should not be in the car. Passengers can dramatically reduce the driver's ability to concentrate.
This can be a difference between life and death for your child and for your child's friends. You do not want your child to have to experience the trauma of a serious car accident.
By taking the proper precautions and making sure that your child understands how important it is to pay attention you could be your life, the life if your child and the life of passengers.
