A new analysis done in 2010 shows that K9 Advantix is extremely effective at preventing
Canine Vector Borne Disease or CVBD as it is commonly known to as. The analysis was published in Veterinary Parasitology and is yet another feather in the cap of Bayer's excellent medications that protect against bites from ticks and sand flies.
The analysis was carried out by Prof. Domenico Otranto and his team at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Italy in partnership with Dr. Edward Breitschwerdt at North Carolina State University. The final results of the study found that Advantix reduced CVBD by more than 90 %.
Compared to dogs that were left with no treatment, the control group in the research, treated dogs had a nearly 98% decrease in tick infestations. The study was completed in an area where there is a very high number of ticks and sand flies. A full 100 % of the dogs that were left with no treatment were found to be ravaged by ticks throughout the peak season.
Prof. Otranto made special note of precisely how important it is to protect dogs with a medication that repels and kills ticks and sand flies. He was very pleased that almost all of the treated dogs were tick free through most of the research and that CVBD's weren't prevalent in 90 % of the treated dogs.
