Strength training is one of the best ways to get fit and obtain the body shape that you want

. However, there are many myths associated with strength training that are commonly thought to be true.

One of these myths is that strength training will produce tight muscles and make it difficult to be fully flexible. This lack of flexibility hinders the ability to perform well in other sports.

When weight lifting is completed slowly with a full range of motion, this activity can actually increase flexibility. The truth is that most athletes incorporate strength training into their workout routine to enhance their performance in their sport.

There famous athletes in every sport that will advocate the importance of strength training in improving their performance. It is suspected that this myth originated from companies who were trying to sell isometric exercise programs.


In order to sell their product, they wanted to discourage people from strength training with tradition barbells. If you look around today, they were not very successful in achieving their goal.

Today, people work out with everything from the classic barbell to the kettlebell. Kettlebells have had a recent increase in popularity among strength trainers.

Originating from Russia, these specialized weights used to be used to train the special service force of the Russian army. Strength trainers today are benefiting from the wide program that kettlebells offer.

However, in the past the marketers were trying to turn people off of the classic weights. On top of their efforts, there is a normal feeling of tightness that comes with working out with weights.

This tightness can easily be relieved. The athlete simply needs to stretch to let go of some of the tightness.

Most athletes stretch after whichever kind of exercise program they choose. Strength training is not the only activity that can cause tightness, but it will not cause damage to the ability to perform of an athlete.

Another myth surrounding weight lifting is that it is necessary for an athlete to eat a lot of carbohydrates before a competition in order to perform to the best of his or her ability. This is not necessarily true.

Eating a lot of carbohydrates before a competition can help improve an athlete's performance, if they have depleted their stores of carbohydrates. However, if the athlete has been eating a healthy amount of carbohydrates and an otherwise balanced diet, it will not be necessary to stock up before the competition if it is relatively short.

It is recommended to athletes who will typically exercise for more than an hour to eat a healthy amount of carbohydrates before a competition. Athletes who should generally eat a lot of carbohydrates include long-distance runners, bicyclists, and so forth.

Another common myth associated with working out is that when you eat food that contains a lot of sugar before a workout, your body will have enough energy to sustain your body through a workout. This is extremely far from the truth.

When you consume simple sugars, simple sugars do not need to be broken down like carbohydrates do. This means that a lot of sugar enters the blood stream.

In response, insulin is released to keep the blood-sugar levels at the correct level. However, when sugar enters the blood stream in this manner, the body often releases more insulin than is needed.

This means that the blood sugar level ends up being lower than it was before you ate the sugar. As a result, you will feel more tired than you were before you ate the sugar.

It is best to eat nutrient rich foods before exercising because they will provide enough energy for the entire workout session. Another myth surrounding strength training is that if you stop working out, your muscle will be converted straight into fat.

Muscle is made up of cells and fat is made up of storage packets that hold lipids. The two things are made of completely different things and they cannot be converted into one another.


When you stop working out, the muscle cells will shrink. In some cases, the muscle cells will shrink faster than the surrounding skin.

This will leave loose skin for a time, but that will slowly go away as well. There are many benefits that strength training has to offer.

Do not pay attention to these myths and you will be able to have a much more worthwhile workout session and reap more of these benefits. You will get a more cut physique, more confidence, and more success in life.
