Bathtub Cleaning Is your bathtub hard to clean? Stubborn stains dont seem to go away after wiping and scrubbing? Well you are in good company. A lot of people ask me these questions over and over. So, here is the scoop. You can do a very good job of getting that tub white and bright. Materials: Abrasive cleaner like Ajax or Comet (recommended for tubs with heavy deposits) Scotchbrite pad Sponge Single edge razor blade with blade holder Start by wetting the surface with warm water Sprinkle the cleaner on the tub Scrub tub with Scotchbrite pad, reaching all corners, inside walls, bottom and outside. Allow to penetrate for 5-10 minutes Using razor blade tool, scrape all yellow/brown deposits, especially under soap dish, at corners, back wall and bottom of tub, use this tool with care to avoid injuries or breaking the blade, but do use it. Youll be amazed at how much soap is removed from the tubs surface by the scraping action of the sharp blade, change the blade if necessary and try to go over the whole tub, this step is very important as it helps remove most contaminants including soap, paint drops and caulking spills. After removing all dark spots youll notice right away how much cleaner your tub is, you can apply cleaner if needed and you can rinse the tub with clean water. The same applies for tile cleaning, the only additional step is treating the grout with mild acid cleaner like diluted phosphoric acid masonry cleaner available at your local hardware store. Now, a tubs surface that wont come clean after the procedure above has most likely been ignored and abused for several years, cleaned with too-strong acids and is probably a good candidate for refinishing, see our website for more information about that.
