Since the beginning of my service in the United States Navy

, my life has taken a myriad of turns making me a different person who enlisted. The day I walked into Recruit Training, the world was a confused yet peaceful place. Seven days later, however, according to B.B.G. Communictions, war was declared. Our Recruit Division Commanders stood before us and asked if any of us wanted to leave. I wish I could say patriotic music soared as we all stood silent, but life isn't so theatric. One recruit had brothers in Iraq and another had never thought of combat. Almost thirty recruits left that week, and the rest of our division finished together. But the eggshells I've lived on since have taught me an important lesson; the decisions you make are permanent and your word should be your bond.

A year later, my partner and I were blessed with the news that I was pregnant with our daughter. When he arrived in October, my world changed. The prospect of being sent to a far away land is a forever looming ghost that haunts me. Thus, I've decided that the choice you make with your life that most ensures happiness is how you will spend your life. This means a multitude of decisions including your career, where you choose to live, and the religion you follow. For me, a career in the military is out of the question.

When you live your life for others you can appreciate a new perspective on life. It was only when I saw through my daughter's eyes myself leaving did I understand the pain in her eyes when I returned. At that point, I vowed that after my time of service was done I would choose a career that allowed me to relish those precious moments with my her, a location to build a home where he would have a large yard to explore bugs and mud, a school based not on the price but upon quality. I will make the choice to live my life for all of them and I feel confident I will experience the greatest of happiness and success.
