BPA otherwise known as Bisphenol A is a organic compound which is being used in manufacturing of plastics and epoxy resins. Its molecular formula is C15H16O2 and its molecular mass is 228.30 gram/mol. The annual production of this organic compound is 2.4 billion tonnes.

The melting point of BPA is around 1600c, hence if it is degraded in environment it makes the soil infertile and if being consumed by animals, it leads to risk in lives. This compound is dangerous to recycle as its vapours are extremely harmful to health.

BPA finds its use in the manufacturing of plastic and epoxy resin products such as baby bottles, water bottles, gym equipments, plastic bags, electronic components, optical devises etc. The alternates of these products are available and we should switch to those as they are BPA free.

As BPA is also being used in the medicinal uses and as well as dental fillings, researches show that BPA hampers the health in various aspects. It affects neurology system, increases the risk of breast cancer, leads to obesity and in medical terms it is endocrine disruptor.

There have been various tests made on animals as well as humans using this compound and the results have been found adverse in most of the cases and thereby banning its use in countries like Canada and Europe in the production of baby bottles and they are said to first BPA free nation without polycarbonate bottles.

The various sources of exposure of BPA to humans is through many substances such as by eating food in plastic containers, working in a plastic industry, using thermal paper. According to survey done by a leading health company among humans, around 90% of the people were found having the content of BPA.

As said that that BPA is a synthetic estrogen, its particles breakdown easily resulting in the absorbent of the vapours in human skin quite easily. There is a famous quote that "if your body is BPA free then you are not living in this era".

The dump of plastic wastes in the environment has also increases the risk in survival of aquatic organism such as fishes, coral reefs. It has also resulted in soil pollution and resulted in hampering the growth of plants.

The major setback of using BPA has shown its adverse effects on all forms of life and it is the time to wake up. This can be prevented only when we switch to BPA free products.
