The year cannot pass by without a mention of the protectionist shadow that USA cast over the global BPO market. New York senators proposed an anti-offshore call center bill to prevent the outsourcing to offshore call centers. Delegates from various countries, neck-deep in business process outsourcing industry, poured into USA to influence the decision makers. After hard lobbying, the bill was sent up in the Senate but rejected by a narrow margin. That offered these countries to breathe easy and also taught them a lesson. They have now started to look at consumer markets beyond USA. Cultivation of the domestic market is high on their agenda, too.
