Baby Boomers

Baby Boomers were born between 1945 through 1964. They are over seventy-six million americans in total and responsible for some of the largest shifts in our culture.

The boomers are split into two large groups, the first of which was born from 1946 to 1955 and epitomized the cultural change of the sixties. This group had a front row seat to the Cuban missile crisis, assassination of JFK, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. They saw the first person to walk on the moon and the horrors of the vietnam war that was broadcast through the television.

They were anti-war protesters, social experimenters and advocates of civil rights. Woodstock was a beacon for this generation that embodies their views on sexual freedom and drug experimentation. The soundtrack for this generation is headlined by the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix.

The second group of boomers were born between 1956 and 1964. They were eyewitness to a change in america as Nixon resigns because of Watergate, the Cold War was discontinued, the drinking age was lowered in many states between 1970 1976. Prices of gas rose as gasoline shortages rose the oil embargo reflected the raging inflation.

Most of the Baby Boomers are well-established in their careers. They are work-centric motivated by position, perks and prestige. The boomers relish long work weeks and define themselves by their accomplishments in their field. An independent, self-reliant and confident group, the boomers are not afraid of confrontation and will not hesitate to challenge established practices.

Since Baby Boomers equate work and position with self-worth, they are quite competitive in the workplace. They received more educational and financial opportunities than the previous generation.

The Baby Boomers are an experimental group. They are free spirited and socially minded. They had a distrust of the government and a general cynicism towards the future. They value "face-time" and look negatively on the Gen X and Gen Y for working remotely.
