Baby Crawling Preparation

While getting your baby crawling will be a huge milestone in their development

, you want to make sure your truly prepared for all the dangers that are going to be in front of your child. Once they start crawling, it won't be very long before they can crawl as fast as you can run, then before long they'll start to walk, then just as quickly they will be able to run. Childproofing your baby's environment will go a long way to preventing baby crawling accidents in the home.

Safe-Guarding Dangers

Outlets

One of the most dangerous things your baby will come across, that is typically right down at their level is electrical outlets. Baby's hands and fingernails are so tiny that they can easy find danger inside the tiny slits of an electrical outlet. Plastic inserts can be purchased and are very effective at preventing infant electrocution. If possible, it's advised that you try to hide electrical cords also, as your baby will no doubt find a way to pull on them, putting them in possible danger.

Unsteady Decor

Lamps, tipsy shelving units, TV stands, coffee tables, low-hanging heavy picture frames, etc -- anything that's not steady and can be tipped over needs to be either secured, or stored somewhere until your baby is older. Imagine a TV falling on your child due to a poorly made, or fragile TV stand. It's better to err on the extreme side of safety with baby crawling preparation.

Don't Leave Baby Unattended

When they were relatively motionless, you could get away with leaving your baby on a changing stand with side protectors. Now that they can roll and crawl with ease, your child either needs to be in a harness, or on the floor with a blanket. You also have to check on them obsessively and keep your ears peeling for any movement from them.
