Baby Furniture Gliders With Ottoman, Or Not?

While some people struggle with the fact that many of the good quality gliders sell the ottomans separately I feel that you should always bite down and get the ottoman for the glider chair.

The ottoman is an integral part of the glider chair set-up. If you are in the market you may need to trust me on this but if you own one then you truly understand. The glider chair ottoman completes the package and makes gliding so much easier than resting your feet on the ground. In fact many ottomans have matching features of the gliding chair.

Many Baby Furniture Gliders have a locking handle which prohibits your glider from moving i.e. gliding back and forth. The ottomans usually do too. Typically there is a foot rest, looks like a ramp which can be easily pulled out using only your foot which locks the ottoman in place and is great if you want to rest your feet on the foot rest and glide in the chair, some people may find this more comfortable position to glide from. In addition while in the locked position and you just want to relax in your glider without the movement you can kick your legs up on the ottoman for comfort. Basically the locked position of the ottoman turns it into a standard non-gliding ottoman you may use on your couch or non-reclining chair.

When the footrest (ramp) is pushed up into the ottoman, again you can do this from the comfort of your glider and requires only one foot to do so, the ottoman will now glide with your chair. I personally find this the most comfortable position to glide from and it requires surprising low effort. I thought about how you glide when your feet are on the ottoman and the easiest way to explain it is basically the same way you would swing in a swing set, with less effort and much less movement. You tighten your leg muscles up a bit to glide back and relax them to glide forward. This may sound uncomfortable but the amount of effort is very little.

One thing to steer away from, in this Baby Furniture Glider owners opinion, is the always stationary (non-gliding) ottoman. These types require you to put your feet flat on the floor to glide. I'm always surprised when I see companies make this the decision when designing the glider chair ottoman and from what I've seen it doesn't drive the price down, but limits the ottomans usability severely.

Finally your baby furniture glider can last you many years, and once your baby is older you can continue to enjoy it while reading, watching tv or enjoying your favorite seated position activity. There are several pieces of baby furniture that you shouldn't skimp on, the crib, storage dressers and the glider but that doesn't mean you have to pay an arm and a leg for them either. Shop around at retail locations (so you can try them out) and always check online for a better price. You will soon find that your baby furniture suite isn't complete without a glider chair with a matching gliding ottoman.
