Baby Talk: Talking To Your Baby With Sense

"Coochie-coochie-coo" is cute but talking words to your baby is more helpful for your baby to develop his speaking skills in later years

. According to recent studies, talking real words to an infant helps in the development of his communication and comprehension skills.

A published research in the journal Child Development that was conducted at Northwestern University in Illinois studied revealed the significant effects of talking actual human words on babies. The subjects were infants between the ages 2 to 4 months old. They were shown a series of fish pictures. Half were told words as the pictures were shown while the other half heard beeps.

The results revealed a remarkable difference between the effects of words and beeps. Researchers found that actual words can help children form categories in their mind. The participants who were told words were able to name the fish based on what they heard. The other group was not able to do so.

Babies who are exposed to actual human words gain the ability to become more aware of their surroundings. The added effort of parents talking to them in sense and identifying objects can help the child recognize what each word mean. Therefore, this enhances their communication skills.

Researchers advise parents to use real words more often in talking to their babies than baby talk. Nevertheless, remember to use short sentences and simple words as you talk to your baby. Obviously, infants can only process simple information. Talk in a happy sounding voice and make bold facial expressions and gestures. In short, talk what you are doing. This has a huge impact on your child"s development in speech.

If you are changing his diaper, describe the process. Talk about the diaper. Describe how white and soft it is. Also remember to use nouns instead of pronouns. For an instance, ask your child "where is your bottle?" rather than "where is it?" Always use proper names instead of "me" and "you". Babies are too young to understand the concept of pronouns.

It is best if you will use visual aids or images while talking to your baby. This will intrigue him more as well as help his brain in recall. Books and pictures of family are great tools to help you and your baby engage in conversation.

Baby talk is not all bad. But bear in mind to talk using real words more often to your child. You will be surprised how quickly he has learned how to speak in complete thought than other kids.

Keeping a safe and green environment aids the child"s growth physically, mentally, emotionally, and his whole being. Invest on baby safety by using earth friendly products and non toxic cleaners like those from BabyGanics. BabyGanics" organic products such as The Grime Fighter contain all-natural ingredients that effectively disinfect and clean the household without harmful propellants.
