Baby potty training: What to do when your child goes in 'reverse mode'

Children are very sensitive, particularly in their toddler stages

. It is also in this age that you need to teach them important things like how to speak, how to conduct themselves in public, and so on. However, there are many reasons why the teaching of such social etiquette might suddenly be ineffective, and one of the most frequent examples of this kind of a situation is in case of baby potty training. You might have taught your child everything, and he/she would also have followed suit for quite some time, but suddenly, the process of doing the 'stuff' in the pants might start automatically, much to the amazement of the parent. However, this could certainly be related to psychological aspects. Moving into a new home brings about curiosity as well a feeling of discomfort in the child. It's hard for them to adjust, and this results in their baby potty training schedule getting disturbed. It could take anywhere from a few days to weeks to even months for the child to get accustomed to the new surroundings. Another case where the child would display erratic behavior is if you change their daycare centers or nanny. Leaving friends due to change of location also causes a lot of stress. If one of the parents used to stay at home, and also possible did the whole baby potty training routine with the child, his/her suddenly not being present all the time cause anxiety in the mind of the child, which further results in the habits getting affected. An extension to this point is when the parents are suddenly divorced. This is obviously a very difficult time for all members of the family, and the child is no exception in this case. So the next time you find that your child is going in reverse mode after learning how to use the potty properly, do keep in mind these above-mentioned points and see if any of them are responsible for this behaviour.
