This can happen so fast that you're left scared, embarrassed, and mystified regarding getting out of significant trouble for having unfiled returns. The fantastic news is that there is a way out from the unfiled tax return trap, as Will from Dallas learned and read his story to see how easy it is to end a back tax problem.

Will, a self-employed plumber from Dallas didn't file his tax returns. Last May, he lost his records in a flood, and had not found time to stress about it because his sub-contracting work was at last picking up. Fortunately, the IRS had not looked as if it would notice, which allowed Will to forget about the his unfiled taxes completely.

Then, almost six months later, a notice sent by the IRS came in the mail. Will saw it and left it on top of the kitchen counter with plans to look into it in a while. However, his spouse was nagging him about finishing the garage and then a new customer needed her addition finished immediately, and soon, the letter was obscured under so many papers that it was forgotten about, Will had other tasks to perform besides worry about his back tax filing.

Months passed and business continued to flourish. The IRS began sending certified notices, but Will and his wife disregarded them since they simply didn't have any time to take a look at them. Finally, Will decided to hire a bookkeeper to work on his taxes for him, but he soon lost track of the progress. The correspondence resumed and continued to show up in their mail, but Will was perplexed because he thought he had taken care of the confusing problem.

Finally, Will picked up a letter one Saturday morning to determine what was going on. He was astounded to learn that the IRS said he now owed over $500,000 in taxes. He read and reread the letter several more times, but every time it said the same thing. Feeling sad, perplexed, and guilty, Will hid the letter in his workshop, hoping that his wife wouldn't discover it before he had a chance to handle it it.

Because Will didn't file his tax returns, the IRS filed and prepared his taxes for him and claimed he earned more and so he owed a lot more than he actually would have if he filed his returns properly. What Will did not realize however, was that he still had a chance. All his missing books could be reconstructed so that his back tax filing would be able to lawfully prepared by an actual tax lawyer. The tax attorney prepared, filed his missing tax returns and this would allow his total taxes owed to become drastically reduced and he would have a likelihood to negotiate down the debt based on his capacity to pay.
