Slowly the fishing methods have changed, and instead of mainly fishing from piers near or at the shore, backcountry fishing has now taken the lead and has become the most attractive way of fishing in Florida Keys, both for locals, tourists and sport fishers.

The main reason why backcountry fishing has become such a famous way of fishing is because of the huge variety of different species that are catchable on such a fishing tour. A lot of the professional fishermen are using backcountry fishing as their main idea when traveling out on commercial fishing, however mostly all of those visiting Florida Keys are sport fishers or hobby fishers in general.

Another reason why backcountry fishing is so attractive to many is the experience level needed none! You dont really need any fishing experience in order to fish like this, however its recommended that you travel along with a guide or a charter the first time you fish backcountry style. This is so you can get the maximum education out of a day on the sea.

Since tarpons are so attractive, some charter companies offers packages on 4, 6 and 8 hour long trips at day time where you can learn about backcountry tarpon fishing. If you want to be on such a tour, you will have to visit Florida Keys and book a charter in the period between March and throughout July as thats the main tarpon season in Florida Keys.

However, even though tarpons are one of the reasons why to backcountry fish, there are also a wide specter of different species to catch and see on such a tour. Over 40 different species are easily achievable to see within only hours of fishing, and with an experienced guide on board, the tour will become even better as you can ask for information regarding each of the different fish you see. Mostly all of the guides on such tours are highly professional fishermen with generations of experience. This is most likely one thing you would want to do some research on in order to find the charter that fits you the best.

Learning about the different techniques of backcountry fishing is also a crucial thing you would want to research on. A local guide would probably be able to teach you at least a thing or two about this, as well as what kind a bait you should use in order to get a specific specie, and where you should fish to see the species you want to see on the tour.
