It is important to note that ball screw assemblies may be ruined by any small obstructions. If it happens that particles of dust or dirt get stuck inside the threadways in the interior of the ball screw repair nut, this can cause the ball bearings to operate less smoothly. A principal feature behind of the levels of efficiency of ball screw assemblies is the fact that they do not generate much friction. A blockage in the assembly can affect this however, raising the levels of friction and lowering the efficiency of the apparatus.

Wiper systems are typically made of tiny flaps that can sweep along the threads of the ball screw nut, basically cleaning it of any particles. Most wipers will be made of either brush, elastomer or felt. As always there is a range of different wiper designs currently being incorporated into ball screw assemblies. Each of them has a one function, that is to sweep away any items of dust that are lodged within the ball screw assembly. The majority of wipers are manufactured from plastic, i.e. elastomer, and they are designed in such a way as to generate friction. This will of course help them to collect any particle that touches them. A range of wipers also features an extra felt wiper, that smoothly lubricates the inside of the ball screw nut with either oil or grease. This design then has the plastic wipers clear the threads, while the felt wipers apply lubricant.
