Bangalore To Ooty - From The It Hub To The Queen Of Hills

On the contrary, Ooty is known for its natural beauty filled with clean and crisp air. One of the most popular hill retreats of the south, Ooty has earned the sobriquet 'Queen of Hill Stations' owing to its unspoiled natural beauty. Placed among the misty hills of the Nilgiri Mountain ranges, Ooty offers an enchanting and rejuvenating experience to its visitors. There are many attractions in Ooty like vast tea gardens, several view points, waterfalls, natural trails, botanical gardens, lakes and streams, valleys and meadows and the famed Nilgiri Mountain Railway, to list a few. Thus, Ooty opens up a wide range of hitherto unseen and unheard charms for its visitors.

The approximate distance between Ooty and Bangalore is around 270 km. This distance can be covered within 6 hours while travelling by road. In fact, the best and easiest way to reach Ooty from Bangalore is by means of Road. Both the places are connected by an excellent network of road and there are many buses that ply from Bangalore to Ooty and vice versa. The buses run by the state transport corporation (both KSRTC and TNSRTC) include ordinary buses, non-A/C and A/C Volvo buses, which charge a price anywhere between Rs 300 to Rs 750 for a single ticket. Travelling by bus is highly recommended to travellers on a shoestring budget or a backpacker.

Hiring a cab from Bangalore to Ooty is also a good option of travel, especially if one is travelling with family, consisting of elders and kids. Though convenient, the taxis may cost to the upwards of Rs 7,200 for a round trip from Bangalore.

Air travel is not an option in this case as Ooty doesn't have an airport. Similarly the Ooty railway station is a part of the famous Nilgiri mountain railway and do not accommodate broad gauge. Hence there is no direct railway link between Bangalore and Ooty. Mettupalayam is the closest railway station to Ooty from where it is possible to board the Mountain rail. Alternatively, one can also hire a taxi from Coimbatore or Mettupalayam railway stations to Ooty, which costs about Rs 1000/- for a round trip.
