. Many people probably still do keep many of their most private and valuable possessions at home in a safe, but most people choose to use a bank to keep track of their money.

The function of banks have the purpose of putting your money where you want it to be. It is a pretty intricate design if you think about it. The problem with these is that although they are there for the people, they also are there to take from the people. If you get a loan from a bank, they will give you money, but your possessions are on the line if you do not pay it back. If you put money in your savings account, you will make interest, but is that percentage in your best interest?

It is important to realize that banks are a business even though they seem like they are simply there to wait on our every whim. They are making money as well. That is the difference between a credit union and a bank. When a credit union collects earnings they simply go back to people like you. People like you are the ones who are the owners or the ones who are holding together the credit union. With a bank, it is the stockholders who do this.

Do these differences make banks bad and credit unions good? No, it simply makes them different. Not everyone may fit into a credit union or desire to have such a role in a business. A bank will accept anyone who is willing to deposit money. There is nothing wrong with making a profit, it is just a different way of handling money.

If might be hard to decide whether to go with a bank or a credit union. Do not let it stress you out. Simply take some time to compare one bank and one credit union. Check interest rates as well as how much of your money would be insured at either place. If they both offer comparable things, then narrow it down even more and focus on which one does more for you and which one is probably going to last.

After making the comparisons between banks and credit unions, make your decision. Neither decision will be wrong if you find the two institutions to be similar. Sometimes the hardest decision is simply knowing when to make the decision that you know is right.
