Premiering in 2008, Bake This! necessitated itself as the East End frontrunner to a virtually untapped web genre, baking their wildly famous Cheesecake Brownies on Youtube.The culinary chemistry between the accomplished pastry chef Frank Allen and the highly engaging personality of Monica Hanes is not only entertaining but incredibly informative.

Neighbors Monica and Frank, welcome us into their kitchen, revealing the secrets and techniques behind those mouth watering desserts from start to finish. If you like to bake, you'll learn a lot, if you don't you'll laugh a lot.

The Bake This! website explains that the idea for the webshow actually came to Monica from watching iCarly with her son. Familiar with Frank and Monica's pastry prowess, Andy Godfrey, the show's producer and computer guy, was instantly intrigued by the Bake This concept. His 20+ years experience in the technology industry, as well as his computer consulting firm A Godfrey Computer Services, provided the missing link to the birth of Bake This!.

Deep Dish Apple Pie

Pie Crust:

2 cups all purpose flour

1 cup shortening

tsp. salt

4 oz. cold water

In electric mixer, mix flour, shortening and salt until crumbly.

Make a well in center of dough and pour in cold water. Mix by hand until well incorporated. Chill 30 minutes. Divide into 2 equal parts and roll both to 1/8" thick.

Filling:

1 cup sugar

1/3 cup al purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

tsp. ground allspice

tsp. salt

12 cups thinly slices Granny Smith apples (about 9 apples) peeled and cored.

3 tbls. butter

Milk & sugar

Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, allspice, and salt. Add sugar mixture to apples, toss to coat. Turn into pastry lined pie dish. (Apples will mound higher than sides of dish) Dot with butter. Carefully place pastry atop apples. Flute edges. Brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 50 minutes.
