Jews have their own traditions and ways of celebrating life. They live life on their own terms and celebrate events according to their culture. They are mostly a very closely - knit group and so much of their festivities is not known to the rest of the world. They have a festival for celebrating the youth which is not found in any other culture. This is what Bar Mitzvah is all about. It is a coming of age ritual for the boys in the house making them officially a complete Jew on whom all the Jewish laws and customs are applicable. After this event the boy can lead prayers and other religious services within the community or the family. So mostly all the families celebrate this event after the boy turns 13. Till this event, the parents of the boy are considered responsible for the boys actions. So, technically the boy becomes a Jewish adult after this ceremony marking the persons independence and responsibility towards the society.
After the event the boy will be considered as a grown member which also means that he will be know about all the major decision being taken at the domestic level. The person will no longer be ignored or kept away in case the vote is required for a certain action to be done in the society. The main thing is that the boy mentally gets a feeling that he is important to the family as the family takes good care of the event and makes the boy realize how precious he is to them. This event was not common in the olden days but now it has become quite a common one for each family and even ladies and girls take part in it. Nowadays the celebration of Bar Mitzvah has changed quite a lot. The celebrations earlier had a family prayer as per their religious practices and it was followed by a great meal in the honor of the person. Now it has become a lot modern and basically is like a party thrown for the person and his friends of the community.
