, Academy Awards, Emmys and more, Barbra Streisand has delighted music and film lovers around the world since the 1960s. Now more glamorous than ever, Streisand continues to perform on Broadway shows, in films, and sings in concert venues around the globe. One of her personal passions is helping the community, especially those who are suffering and are in need. This year, Barbra Streisand, along with former President Bill Clinton, is hosting a special awareness for women's heart health through the Follow Your Heart Fundraiser. She has enlisted the help of several prominent celebrities and political figures to bring light to this cause and to try and raise money for continued research and the development of medicines and cures. While she continues to sell out Barbra Streisand tickets to her famed concerts, she still has time to help others.

The Beginning of a Long and Lustrous Career

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1942, Barbra Joan Streisand started her singing and acting career very early in life. She already knew the career she was destined for and thus began performing in Off-Off Broadway productions with the likes of Joan Rivers, and singing in nightclubs - all in her teens. Streisand quickly gained recognition for her talent and performed at The Lion, a popular gay club in Greenwich Village which then led to her performing in clubs in other cities, including in Canada. From there, Streisand was able to get segments on The Tonight Show in 1961 and then again in '62 and '63 as well as on other popular primetime television shows as well as more musicals.

Barbra Streisand's first album, The Barbra Streisand Album, was released in 1963 and received two Grammy Awards. For someone who had started so early, she had become quite famous early on as well. She performed in Funny Girl, a Broadway musical that had much success both in the United States and in London's West End, in 1964 and the success of the musical prompted her to be on the cover of the 1966 Time issue.

Throughout her lifetime, Barbra Streisand has accomplished many huge feats. Since her career started, almost all of her 35 albums were recorded with Columbia Records, many of which have garnered her not only commercial success, but a large fan base and loyal followers of the entertainer. But Barbra Streisand is known not only for her incredible voice, which has been featured in numerous films, television shows, and is still played on radio stations across the country, but she has also starred in countless films. Her talent is extraordinary and it doesn't just stop at acting and singing. Streisand has also directed and produced many films for which she was passionate about and has worked with some of the world's biggest talents throughout her career.

Streisand uses her fame and notoriety in order to help others in need, specifically her efforts in women's heart health. She has worked with former President Bill Clinton on his charity events and has enlisted his help on her current charity efforts, Follow Your Heart.
