There has been a dramatic switch of manufacturing industry from what was once known as the advanced industrialized world to parts of the world where labor, a vital ingredient in any manufacturing, was cheaper.

The recent credit crunch has slowed things down. China's plentiful labor force often migrated to the cities for work, though not particularly well paid work but enough money to be able to send money back to the family in the villages throughout the country. As the demand for products dropped even that small money dried up. Unemployment struck sharply for the first time since the economic boom came to China as no one had expected the downturn created by the failings of financial houses in the West. Faced with returning home or staying with little prospect of paying the rent this was a new experience for the man from the Chinese countryside.

China though has been the first of the G20 countries to recover while many are still struggling, out of recession under the definition of successive negative quarters but until the is growth in the consumer countries, and growth that is sustainable, demand of China's manufacturing will not hit the boom times again.

Interest rates are at an all-time low in an attempt to stimulate economies throughout the world but confidence has been badly shaken at every level and demand will only increase if there is a return to a feeling of security of employment, and increased recruitment in areas where the work was lost as businesses closed.

Some specialized industries with niche markets have suffered less as there is still a wealth around but the speculators have been warned.
