It's time the big boys of the premiership were given a wide birth. They get so much of the spotlight. Living in Barnet we feel more needs to be said about our local team Barnet football club. They have been around for nearly 130 years but who are Barnet football club and where do they play.

Barnet football club was formed in 1888. They were formerly known as Woodfield FC between 1882 and 1885 until they changed their name to New Barnet Football club. The team were known as the "hillmen" and formed from students that attended Cowley College and Lyonsdown Collegiate School.

In their many forms Barnet football club started playing at Woodfield Road in the London Borough of Barnet under their Woodfield Football Club name and moved from Woodville Road in Barnet to Cooks Farm Victoria Road Barnet. In 1889 Woodfield FC (soon to be Barnet Football club) moved to Queens's road also in Barnet.

In the early years Barnet football club had their headquarters at the Salisbury Arms Hotel. The Salisbury Hotel is no longer trading and the space is currently occupied by Iceland. The team used the Blackhorse Pub in Wood Street Barnet as their dressing rooms.

Barnet finally moved to Underhill, Barnet Lane in September 1907. Underhill is still Barnet football clubs ground. Barnet football club enjoys support throughout the Barnet strongholds of East Barnet, High Barnet, New Barnet and Friern Barnet.

Barnet Football Club is nicknamed the Bees and appropriately play in their familiar home kit of amber and black. The clubs crest comprises the Greenhill of Barnet, red rose, white rose and cross swords representing the 1491 war of the roses.

Barnet football club played predominantly in the Athenian League and finally adopted professional status in 1965 when they joined the Southern League.

Barnet Football Club is currently playing in the English football league 2. Barnet are sitting in 23rd position which is deep within the relegation Zone and are in serious danger of dropping off the radar. Barnet Football Club did however enjoy a rare win beating Crewe Alexander 2-1 after taking a 2 goal lead in the first half.

Let's hope Barnet football club can turn things around over the remaining games of the current season.
