Basic Bass Fishing Gear

If you have always wanted to try your hand at bass fishing

, you will need to have some basic bass fishing gear. This equipment will help you to catch some really nice fish. Most of this equipment can also be used on most of the common varieties of bass including the smallmouth and largemouth bass varieties.

The first thing that any avid fisherman will need to fish for bass is a spinning reel. This reel is also known as an open face reel as the line is completely exposed. This type of reel is easy to learn to cast and will be effective in getting long casts into lily pads or even in to the deep waters when fishing the middle of the lake.

There are many sizes of spinning reels that can be purchased. You really want to stick to the more mid sized reels when purchasing a spinning reel. This will enable you to be able to bring most of the bass of all sizes. A small reel may not handle a larger bass and the large spinning reels will simply be bigger than is needed.

You will also want to have some actual fishing line. You should have line that is different tests. The line test simply means the amount of weight that the line can take before it breaks. The higher the test the more weight it will hold. If you are planning on going after large trophy bass, then you want to have at least ten pound test.

You will also want to have some really high test line that you can use as a leader line. Some leaders also have metal wire inside of it to keep the fish from biting the line. You will have a better chance at bringing in your fish if you use a leader line that the fish can not bit through. Having different test leader lines will allow you to switch them out quickly depending on the size of the fish you are bringing in.

A rod will be needed to attach the spinning reel to. This piece of equipment is really personally specific. Many want to have a light rod with a feather tip that will allow them to feel any tugs and pulls on the line. If you want to use one of these types of rods, then you will need to practice with it.

When fishing in vegetation, you will get a lot of action on the tip and it can get tricky figuring out when a fish is biting or when you are going through the pads. For this reason, many people will typically use this type of rod when fishing for more of the deep water bass rather than fishing lily pads.
