Basic Bedroom Decorating

When it comes to the different rooms in your home, the bedroom is the most personal of them all. Using furnishings and lighting is enough to create a comfortable and peaceful bedroom to spend your personal time. There are many ideas for creating outlandish bedrooms but for this article we will focus on comfort and a relaxing atmosphere.

The most simple way to make a bedroom more comfortable is to use what is already there and arrange it so that the layout makes sense. Bedrooms don't need a lot of furniture and sometimes the less furniture there is, the better. All rooms are more comfortable and easier to relax in if there is a lot of space or, at least, enough space to move freely without worrying about bumping into something. Make the bed the focal point of the room. The design and material of the furniture doesn't matter as much as the actual layout.

Facing the bed toward the entryway can help make the bed the focal point. A nice comforter on the bed will help put your mind at ease every time you walk in the room. Adding extra pillows is a nice touch if you will see them. If you are seeing the bed every time you enter the room you will want the bed to seem like a nice place to be. This feeling will carry over into the rest of the room.

If the room is dull or drab just add some lighting or change the light bulbs to something that puts out more light. If there is only one light in the room, consider adding a lamp so that you have a dimmer light in the room for romantic times or for reading without having the bright light in your eyes.

Small bedrooms can create a problem for decorating. Many of us experience this problem and one way to attack this problem is to repaint the room using a bright color of paint. Another solution is to add mirrors to the walls. Mirrors give the illusion of more space. Even though you know the room is the same size, your mind will interpret it as being larger. Mirrors combined with lighting is even more dramatic for our brains.
