The guitar is one of the quickest and easiest musical instruments you can learn, and, much like riding a bike, once you learn it will be with you for your entire life. Basic guitar lessons are relatively inexpensive, there are many teachers who will guide you at your desired pace, and you won't have to wait very long before you see (and hear) results.

You probably imagine yourself playing and sounding a certain way on the guitar, and that's just what you should be doing, for that gives you the motivation to learn. When you take basic guitar lessons, you will start slowly, learning first the most common chords in the standard position. Gradually, as you become more and more comfortable with how your fingers go on the neck, how to cleanly strum chords, and as you begin to get a feel for rhythms, you will progress more and more. One of the most important things besides having fun is to not get discouraged. It's far too easy to get upset when you start to think that your ability doesn't live up to your expectations. Have patience and stick with it, and you will get to where you want to be with the guitar.

Practice is a funny thing that way. One day you will pick up the acoustic guitar, and it's as though you improved in your sleep! The best way to get to that stage of development is to keep at it. You probably have some favorite musicians that you would like to emulate, but always keep in mind that they were beginners at one point too. To put it another way, there is no shame in starting slow. The guitar is one of most likeable instruments to learn, and thus it s worth learning well. Once you get the basics down you will be able to expand your guitar repertoire to include more complicated songs, note scales for lead guitar playing, finger-style guitar, and anything else you can imagine. But that will come later. First things first, pick up the guitar and find a teacher of some basic guitar lessons. They are more affordable than you think, some teachers will come to you, and you won't feel overwhelmed at the prospect of learning of strange, new instrument on your own.

A musical instrument is a beautiful thing and extremely fun to know. The beauty is it's never too late to start.
