Several Years ago my Wife decided that I was no longer going to drive her crazy, when I had some time off from the very demanding job that I had been doing at the time. One day, after making this decision, she very subtly suggested that I try to find a hobby to preoccupy myself with. Knowing that I've always been the type of person that has to stay constantly busy, both physically and mentally, I decided to take her recommendation to heart, and make a serious effort to find a hobby for myself, and at the same time keep my marriage intact.

I'm kind of glad that I am the way that I am, and I'm also very happy that I was making my wife a little crazy with all of my antics on my days off, because if things weren't the way that they were, I would have never found the amazing hobby that I'm involved with today! This hobby I'm referring to is known throughout the world as "the wonderful world of model trains." I can confidently recommend to anyone who is considering starting a new hobby to gather all the model train information that you can, and in so doing, you'll also discover what an amazing hobby this is.

One of the immediate benefits that you experience with this hobby is that there are so many things to learn and do, that you'll easily lose track of time without even really realizing it. Being able to lose yourself in time, and shut off the world for a few hours with something that you enjoy doing is well worth the effort, and model trains will absolutely do that for you.

Being a model train hobbyist means that your going to acquire a number of new skills, and as an extra bonus, model railroading will also allow you to demonstrate your artistic side. You'll have to do a little historical research to be able to decide on an era for the theme of your layout. You'll even have to pick up some carpentry skills, if you'd like to build the bench work for you trains, and if you intend on having your trains run smoothly, you'll be learning electrical stuff as well.

If you think that the learning process stops here, your wrong, because we haven't even discussed your future need to know the difference between gauge and scale, and how that is going to directly relate to what type of trains you select for your layout. The opportunity to really show off your artistic side will come into play when your ready to create the scenery for your model train layout, and this is the part of being a model train railroader that will really impress your friends and family.

Speaking of family, I would be remiss, if I failed to point out, that out of all the hobbies to choose from, there is no better hobby to involve your family with than "the wonderful of model trains!
