Photography is a wonderful form of expression that can take years of practice

Many of the more technical skills of photography can be learned gradually by taking lots of pictures over time so if you love photography this won't be a tough goal to achieve. Turn Your Camera Around

This is one of the easiest changes to implement in your daily shoots. Many new photographers miss out on great shots because they forget about rotating their camera to shoot images vertically instead of just horizontally. Take a look at your subject before you shoot the image and see if vertical or horizontal orientation would look better.

Take a Different Look

Changing your perspective is another habit you should focus on in your daily shooting. Taking pictures straight on with the subject directly in front of you is a popular way to take pictures so you should always be looking for another angle. For instance, think about taking a picture of someone by getting a different angle of them like shooting from above or below them.

Stop Fighting Against the Light

When it comes come to the basics, photography is just the way objects interact with the light. By understanding how to use light properly, you can dramatically improve the quality of your images so don't be afraid to play around. You should always consider moving or changing your position so you can get the best possible light for your shot. When it comes to working with light, thinking outside the box can give you incredible results especially when you add back lights.

Use Your Camera for Cropping

Learning to use your camera for cropping is difficult to do but it is critical that you learn how to frame your pictures correctly. One of your goals with taking good pictures is to leave out anything that doesn't help in telling the story of your picture. If you can't get the right setup, try adjusting the distance from your subject or try taking the picture vertically instead of horizontally. This is a more minor issue now thanks to the invention of photo editing software. However, it's still better to try to get these things done in camera.

Get an SLR

Although upgrading your auto focus camera to an SLR does cost money, it is an easy solution to taking better pictures. But the main reason for using an SLR over an automatic or "aim and shoot" camera is that it will let you manually adjust your focus, exposure and aperture - all critical aspects of great photography. And unlike some small digital cameras, when you look through the viewfinder of an SLR you see the image exactly as it's going to be taken. And lastly, SLR cameras will give you lots of flexibility in choosing accessories like extra filters or lenses. You may not need these things now, but they'll certainly come in handy when you want them.
