Dentist services is an important part of the health care of a community

. Just like going to a health doctor for an annual health care visit, a person who wants to have good health should also visit the dentist twice per year. It's actually even more productive to go to the dentist routine visits because the dentist actually cleans and polishes the teeth and removes dental plaque build-up on the teeth. This is why a person should go twice every year for routine health visits to the dentist because of the preventative care that a dentist provides during those two times a year routine dental visits. Not only does a dentist clean and polish a dental patients teeth, but does a full examination of the oral cavity including a dental x-ray to provide preventative dental care for the oral bone structures too.

Just as there are many health service specialties within the medical field of doctors, there are many dental specialties within the field of dentistry. Just like a general family doctor, a general dentist carries out all the preventative dental care service and dental health maintenance service. A dentist also provides his/her dental patients with the dental health information they need to maintain dental health between routine visits to the dentist office. The specialties within the dental field works much like the medical field of doctors when it comes to schooling. A dentist who wants to specialize in a specific field of dentistry must complete more education requirements and training to qualify for dental school.

To be admitted to a dental school, a dentist student would need a college education of at least three years. A lot of dentist students opt to have some kind of pre-dentistry studies during college to be able to have a better chance to get into the dental school. These types of classes that are pre-dentistry would include chemistry, biology, and other such science and anatomy classes.

In addition to the classes that a dentist student must take to enter dental school is a dental exam to pre-qualify for dental school. The dentist student will show through the exam what the dentist student already knows about dental subjects.

A dentist student will attend a dental school with a four-year dental program. These first four years of dental school focus on the general dentistry practice and services. The first two years of dental school consist of classroom instruction and dental health study. The last two years of dental school is when the dentist student will do a lot of clinical practice and on-hand dental service practice. Before a dentist student can continue from the first two years of dental school to the clinical part of the last two years, a dentist student must pass all the dental school exams from the previous years.

Following the four-year dental school program, a dentist student can opt to go further into dental school for a dentistry specialty practice, or the dentist student can move forward with the licensing test required by the state where the dentist student will set up dentistry practice. Once the dentist student has a license and has finished dental school, the dentist student is then authorized to practice dentistry as a general dentist.
