Nothing is as irritating a sound as a faucet dripping late at night
. It is a reminder that your money is going down the drain. Make sure that you have your dripping faucets repaired as soon as possible. Repairing it yourself is also okay as long as you know what you are doing. This page is helpful for learning how to fix dripping faucets.
First thing to do is to turn off the water supply to the faucet. Find the valve at the base of the faucet under the sink. You will probably see problems with the faucet washer. Utilize a screw driver to remove the top of the faucet stem. Just in case that you are unable to see any of the screws, try searching for it right near the center of the top under a piece of plastic or metal.
After removing the handle, you must then remove the valve stem by using a slip joint pliers. To remove it, simply turn it in the direction which you turn when turning on the water. After removing it, you then examine the washer on the valve stem to see if it has already deteriorated. To remove the screw holding the washer, you need to have a screwdriver and utilize some penetrating oil as well. It will have to be replaced when it becomes bent or even gouged.
Next you have to inspect the valve seat for any damages. If you see some bite like imprints on the washer then the seat of the washer will also need replacing. It is found right at the bottom of the faucet and you need to utilize an allen wrench in order to remove it. Remember to take good care not to damage the new seat and do not force the placement of the seat on to the faucet.
As soon as the seat is replaced you can already install a new washer on the valve stem. Then just make sure that you return the stem back to the faucet and return the faucet handle too. These steps will help you to fix your dripping faucets at home.
