Basics Of Road Bikes
Road bikes are among the oldest forms of bicycles and are also quite common
. These are generally strong, lightweight and designed especially for speed. These bicycles are built for traveling at speed on paved roads We've seen these bikes for ages. If you surf the Web, you can find lots of old bikes and even off-road are also beginning to gain popularity.
These bikes are also known as racing bikes. Weight and stiffness are the main distinguishing features. The two largely determine the efficiency with which power can be transferred to the pedals controlling the wheel. With this in mind, most bikes sacrifice comfort for speed. The handlebars are positioned lower than the saddle (or seat of the bike) to create an aerodynamic position. Gear ratios are also close enough, allowing the driver to pedal at their own speed.
When comparing this kind of bikes with other types, road bikes share these common features:
1) They have narrow tires, and are smooth to decrease the rolling friction.
2) In most cases, they use multiple derailleur gears. Although, single speed and fixed gears are also available.
3) Bikes construction is intended to be as lightweight as possible.
Tires: Road bikes are fast running because they have thin tires. The tires are kept as thin as possible to maintain resistance to a minimum with minimum effort. This is also the reason why road bikes are not recommended for beginners, since friction is reduced (thin tires) on the stability of the bike. They are more stable than mountain bikes, which can be run on rough terrains.
Handle bars: Innovations of modern design and technology in recent decades have led to the change of bikes and making them fast. Handlebars that are now used havespecial curved handles and are usually lower than the saddle so that the rider's posture will be more aerodynamic, a low and smooth riding stance, thus, making the bike faster.
Gears system: Modern bikes have three-way chain rings at the front and ten rings on the rear wheel. This gearing system allows the rider to bike through steep hills and twisted roads easily and more conveniently without having to sacrifice the speed.
The development of modern bikes has made their prices bit high. However, through the efforts of online retailers, you can find many online road bikes. You can even find off-road bikes that are available for affordable prices.
