Located in Old Goa district near Panjim, Basilica of Bom Jesus is the most popular church of Goa. It has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO and one can see the remains of St. Francis Xavier here. It was built in 1585 and after an accident was rebuilt in 1663.
History: This church was built under the instructions of Archbishop Dom Fr. Alexio De Menezes. This place is very pious for Christians because the body of St Francis is kept here. People believe that this chapel is magical because the body of Saint is as fresh as the day it was brought here. Devotees from every part of the world come here to see them.
Architecture: It is a two-story building made of laterite blocks and lime plastered. It has a marble flooring with the inlaid precious stones. The interior of the church is very simple and is enhanced with beautifully decorated altars with different paintings depicting the life of St Francis. The architecture of this basilica is a mixture of Renaissance and Baroque style.

Ruins of St. Augustine's Tower: It was built in the year 1602. Here one can see the remains of the only chapel of St Augustine in Old Goa. It was the biggest Church of Goa and was destroyed in 1931-38.
