1.)The Carousel
One of the basic ball handling workouts you should start out with since it helps you grab a feel of the ball. This is great to help warm up your arms too. Stand straight with your feet together. Then bring the ball up your head the circle it around using both hands. Do that for at least 30 seconds before moving down to your waist, and then around your legs. Once you are done with the legs, go back up to your head. This time circle it using the opposite direction.
2.)The Suicide
This uniquely named ball handling workout will need to be part of your basketball drills for guards. This drill is very hard if you are starting out but it gets easier once youve mastered it. This can greatly help your ball handling.
You need to hold the ball between your legs with both hands. The right hand will need to be in front of the ball and the left hand behind the ball. In a fraction of a second, try to switch hands making the left hand in front and the right hand behind the ball without letting the ball touch the ground.
3.)Figure 8 and Figure 8 Dribbling
Okay, this drill is composed of two parts. First off is the Figure 8. You need to spread your legs apart and bend your waist. Then with your ball on your (right) hand, bring it down between your legs and switch possession to your (left) hand. Bring the ball back to your side and to your front and repeat the process, forming Figure 8.
The second part is the Figure 8 dribbling. This ball handling workout is great and a must have for any of the basketball drills for guards. This can extremely enhance your ball handling. This time you need to dribble the ball at a low height but in a fast pace. Start out with your (right) hand, moving between your legs then switch possession to your (left) hand as it dribbles the ball to your (left) side, front, then back between your legs again. Repeat this process over and over for at least 5 minutes.
These basics should be integrated with your basketball drills for guards. Just make sure to practice religiously and you will soon be out playing for your team and not warming up the bench.
