There is no limitation of the excitement when dog lovers get Basset Hound as their
pet but the excitement soon ends when it starts using the home as a bathroom. But instead of getting frustrated and anxious about it, there are some useful and important tips that help in training your Basset hound to do their potty at the right place.
1. Learn the patterns
Punishing your puppy when he has accidents will be actually your fault for not taking him to the potty area on time. Try to learn if there is pattern developing for such accidents so that it may assist you while training him.
2. Take him for a walk
Take him for a walk somewhere when he needs to do the potty. Then take him agian to the same place next time and your basset hound will remember to do the potty there. Gradually he will develop a habit as time passes on.
3. Praising is key
Whenever he does his potty at the right place, praise him or reward him with something. It makes him feel that something good will always happens when he does his potty at right place.
4. Patience and positive attitude
It takes time and good effort to train them perfectly. Don't be embarrassed when they do mistakes. Actually they aren't aware of the valuable rugs and carpets or couch, they relieve themselves when they need to do. Training with patience and positive attitude is a must needed thing.
5. Crate training
It is one of the most effective ways to potty train basset hound because dogs never mess up with the area they sleep in. Besides, they are happy when they get their own den and always keep that area clean. So, whenever they need to eliminate, they will just whine or come out of the crate to do their potties. But use the crate for limited time until they finally learns, not forever.
