First of all, make sure you at least have an idea of what you want. Some people might go to a BMW dealer without any idea of what they are looking for. The only thing they know is that they want that particular brand. This isn't very helpful to the car salesman or to the prospective buyer. So, make sure you have at least a slight idea of your desires.

For instance, you should know whether or not you want an SUV, a 2-door vehicle or a 4-door vehicle. It would also be helpful if you knew the colors that you were interested in. Knowing these couple of things will help to narrow the pool down significantly, which would help the process go much quicker. This isn't to say that you should rush through the car lot without making sure you're satisfied. However, it's also not a good thing to spend 2 hours trying to figure out what vehicle model you want.

Along with knowing what type of vehicle you want, you should also have an idea of what you can afford. Of course, there will be someone available to help you with the financing process. However, you should still have an idea of a realistic price range. That way you don't psyche yourself out, thinking that you can afford a vehicle or model that you can't. Also, you may pass up on a car thinking that you can't afford it when you really can. So, it could work both ways.

The way you do this is by sitting down and taking a serious look at your monthly expenses. See how much you have to spare for a monthly car payment. You could also take some time to find out which things you can realistically cut back on, if necessary.

Having an idea of what you want along with your true financial status before visiting a BMW dealer will help to make the process go much more smoothly and quickly. Not only will this be good for you, but the car salesman will most likely appreciate it as well.
