Be the Difference
When I sat down to write this page, what inspired me, was listening to internet radio, the station was playing the music of my era, 70's urban music. The songs reminded me of the simpler times of my life. It was a very pleasant experience to keep it in simpler terms. I was reminded of how carefree life was for me, not a care in the world! I enjoyed every minute of it. The music was mellow and took my mind to a place of contentment, happiness and relaxation. The music was part of the times that helped shape the beliefs and values that took a lot of us, into adulthood. It's exactly parallel to how music affects our young people today. What we listen to, and what we experience helps to construe in a major way, what is relevant to living and what's not.
What you take in and what you experience is a major key to shaping what you value and believe. Now, believe me when I say this, there is a major difference in the music, but one way or another has the same outcome. Our day, we knew, in order to be cool, we had to had to be able to roll with the big dogs, do what was in, dress the part, act the part. It's the same value system today. Though, I will never discount my past, because it has a direct link to my present and future, I do understand I experienced some things that are not relevant to my present or future. The substance of my past has a direct link to my knowledge of self. "Remembering the things we used to do, the places, we use to go, its just and oldie but goodie", (GQ) what a line!
Today, you can still find music, poetry, quotes that can inspire, aspire and motivate you. The key is to be able to go back, get the things that are relevant to your present, future and success and understand there are things we need to leave behind. Now, you may think that I don't fully appreciate all of my past, but I do. My past is my direct link to who I am. Good and bad. I know that in order, to succeed in life there are some things I need to do different, some things, I need to leave behind. My past has taught me that I need to be a better person today and tomorrow. I can't change what I used to be, but I can surely learn from it.
We allow our vanities, egos, envies to be roadblocks. The road to an empowered life is not hard to find. When we go back, get the things that are beneficial and leave behind all of the fallacies we thought were values behind; we start on a path to empowerment. That doesn't mean it all of a sudden you get it, there is still work that needs to be done. When you take from the past, things you know will be relevant to your success, (ancestral history, lineage, and sacrifices of those before you), you gain insight to what needs be done and the importance in getting it done. Don't allow the things in your past that kept you locked out; continue to keep you locked out. The world is yours; make sure you are well prepared for it.
